# What Are the Requirements to Be a Residency Director or Mentor?

The requirements to serve as a residency director or mentor are listed in the [2025 NCOPE Residency Standards](https://ncope.org/index.php/home-page-v2/residency-program-services/2025-residency-standards/) under Standard IV.  The requirements include a combination of education, post-certification/licensure experience, and completion of either the [Online Residency Program Development Course](https://ncope.org/index.php/home-page-v2/residency-program-services/residency-directors-mentors-and-administrator-information/residency-residency-program-development-course/) sections I, II & III **or **the [Approved Clinical Mentor (ACM)](https://ncope.org/index.php/home-page-v2/residency-program-services/residency-directors-mentors-and-administrator-information/residency-approved-clinical-mentor-acm/) course within the last 3 years.
