What Clinics Can be Part of an NCOPE Accredited Residency Site?

Residency Training can occur at Satellite Clinics or Partner Clinics to ensure the resident’s training is well-rounded and enables the achievement of all site defined goals and NCOPE requirements.

– Satellite Clinics are owned and operated by the same organization that owns/operates the primary residency clinic location.

– Partner Clinics are owned and operated by a different organization than the one that owns/operates the primary residency clinic.

Partner Clinics must have a written formal agreement in place that clearly identifies the roles and responsibilities of the clinic and its employees who will serve as mentors for the resident.  A sample agreement between partner clinics is accessible on the 2025 Residency Standards Documents page.

The 2025 Residency Standards allow for residency sites to define Local and Remote clinics to partner with.

Local Satellite Clinics and Local Partner Clinics must be within a 50-mile radius of the primary residency clinical site.

This distance is extended to 75-miles if the clinic is within a designated rural area as defined by CMS.  To learn about rural area designations and how to check a specific location, please CLICK HERE.

– Remote Satellite Clinics and Partner Clinics must be independently accredited as a primary NCOPE Residency Site and cannot operate under the accreditation of a site more than 50 miles away.
