Insights From the Editor-In-Chief

One of our goals at the NCOPE is to help recruit students for education and training in orthotic and prosthetic technology at the four colleges that offer this educational experience. One aim of our goal is to help fill the vacant positions for technicians in O&P practices around the United States. Experienced technicians are retiring or moving to different industries. This change is accompanied by newer clinicians/practitioners who are often not exposed to fabrication at the same level as in past years.

Another reoccurring factor for each practice is the increasing costs of consumable fabrication supplies for fabrication production. Because of these increased costs, the role of capable and proficient technicians is even more critical to help sustain financial security for the practice.
