Online Residency Program Development Course

Per the NCOPE Residency Standards, completion of the NCOPE Residency Program Development Continuing Education Courses are required to be completed by both current and prospective NCOPE residency program directors and mentors. In order to mentor residents, mentors and directors must have completed all three modules WITHIN THE PAST 3 YEARS.

  • Both residency directors and mentors must complete “Course One: Preparation to be a Residency Program”, “Course Two: Development of a Residency Program”, and “Course Three: Assessment in the Residency Program”.

These online learning resources are designed to systematically guide you through the steps required for hosting an NCOPE accredited residency program and to help you develop the most effective residency experience for new graduates.

  • The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics (ABC) has awarded Category I Mandatory Continuing Education (MCE) business credits for each course.
  • These courses are offered for free to all individuals that meet the standards to serve as a residency mentor and/or director via the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).

You may complete each course at your own pace. Quizzes are embedded throughout each course to assess your understanding. After completing all of the quizzes in each course, your cumulative grade must be a minimum of 80% to pass and print the certificates of completion and earn ABC MCE credits.

We hope you find this online resource helpful in implementing and managing your residency program.

If you completed the online residency development course using the Canvas Learning Management System (Canvas LMS), you can download a copy of your completed certificates anytime from Accredible: https://v2.accounts.accredible.com/retrieve-credentials?origin=https:%2F%2Fwww.credential.net.

PLEASE NOTE: Completing the online residency development course does not automatically list you as an NCOPE Mentor or add you to NCOPE Tracker. Once you have completed the courses and met all other mentor requirements of the NCOPE Standards, the residency director will need to complete the Residency Faculty Add-On Form in order to list you at a residency site.

Once you have been added to NCOPE Tracker, residents are not automatically assigned to you. A resident must submit a change-of-mentor form within Tracker in order to have you assigned as their mentor.

Development of this course was made possible by the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists through a grant (Award Number H235K080004) from the U.S. Department of Education.
