What Are the Advertising Requirements for a Residency Site to Comply with the 2025 Residency Standards?

The 2025 Residency Standards define advertising requirements in Standard I – Recruitment and Selection of Residents and Appendix C – Rule for the OPRESCAS System. #

Key Points:

1. All NCOPE Residency Programs are required to use the OPRESCAS system to advertise residency positions.

2. Advertisements for the O&P Residency Program in a clear, accurate, and transparent manner to help prospective applicants make informed decisions.

3. The advertisement on OPRESCAS must include:

– The primary location(s) where residency training occurs.
– The number of residency mentors and directors at the site that meet the requirements defined in Standards 4.1 and 4.4 that have been formally identified to NCOPE
– Any transportation requirements to participate in the residency
– The program duration
– The timeline the program has for selecting, hiring, and starting residents
– What benefits are extended to residents
– The objective criteria the residency program uses to select residents
– The name, email address, and/or phone numbers for the primary contact at residency site
– The name of the director or designated associate director/mentor who can to address applicant inquiries and concerns

4. If information about the O&P Residency Program changes including the number of positions available or the primary contact person, it must be updated once these changes occur.

5. The site must consider all applications and selection of applicants should be based upon the objective criteria defined.

6. Any position made visible on OPRESCAS must be made visible for a minimum of 14 days.

7. The site may only advertise a position if the the site fully intends to hire a person to fill the position and there is adequate funding/resources available to enable successful completion of the resident.

8. If the site is able to provide NCOPE direct access to all required data points and fields and there is a signed data sharing agreement between the sponsoring organization and NCOPE, the site is eligible to be exempt from advertising positions in OPRESCAS.
